Umbrella Liability Insurance Coverage

Umbrella liability insurance coverage provides protection for bodily injury, personal injury, property damage and advertising injury limits combined. Some umbrella polices may provide additional protection above and beyond the Errors and Omissions (E & O) coverage, generally for an additional premium.

The Umbrella provides an additional"layer" of liability protection in increments of one million dollars above and beyond the underlying coverage (basic general liability limits). The concept of the umbrella coverage is to provide protection when the limit of the underlying coverage is exhausted. It may also provide protection when gaps in coverage in the underlying general liability policy exist. There is an aggregate limit equal to the occurrence limit, and often a "retention" or deductible applies.

When?

The underlying General Liability limits of your insurance policy may not be sufficient to cover you properly. Also, many client contracts and leases require Umbrella liability coverage.
